Young Leaders’ Academy Honored with Regional Innovator Award

Young Leaders’ Academy of Baton Rouge was recognized for its work in providing young African American males in the Baton Rouge area with leadership and academic training and community service opportunities. The Academy’s “service leadership” model requires academy students (ages eight to 17) to devote a minimum of three hours a month to volunteer activities. The Academy offers a variety of programs including a mentoring program, a summer and Saturday academy, after-school tutorial program and a parent support network. [more]

Awarded the Presidents Service Award at the White House by President Bill Clinton (20 winners are selected from 4000 nominated nationally) The President’s Service Award is the highest award in the United States for community service.

1998
Presented the Points of Light Award by former President George Bush at the National Community Service Conference.
